Porsche is counting the cost of a PR accident which crashed the
computers of journalists supposed to review its new 911 Carrera.
The company had made up a press pack complete with CD Rom about the
car and sent it out to motoring journalists across Europe.
But as journalists opened the doors on the virtual car, a virus
secretly opened up in their hard drive and sent itself on to the first
50 names in their e-mail address book.
Porsche executives in Stuttgart admitted they had already sent out
about 1,000 CD Roms but managed to warn most journalists before their
computers were affected.
The company says it regrets the mistake.
